Led Zeppelin: Commemoration Day
London featured large in the life of the World’s greatest rock band, and has continued to feature in their subsequent solo careers! From their humble beginnings rehearsing in a basement on Soho’s Gerard Street to their 2007 ‘Commemoration Day’ reunion at the 02 in front of a lucky 20,000 fans, the capital of rock witnessed their climb to rock’s pinnacle. And London was also ‘home’ to band members Page and Jones in their pre-and post Zep careers.
The many sites and locations we can find throughout the city and its environs provide perfect icons around which we can hang our own wonderful commemoration day, recounting the band’s story and putting them into their rock history context!
We explore the pre-Zep world of the Yardbirds, learn about legendary studios – like Joe Meek’s Holloway Road, and the IBC studios, where Page and Jones as young session men cut their musical teeth. We see Olympic Studios where Led Zeppelin 1 was made, and Island – where part of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ was recorded. On our itinerary are gigs sites ranging from the early Klooks Kleek club, Chalk Farm Roundhouse and the Marquee to the Royal Albert Hall and Earls Court Stadium. We’ll visit rehearsal locations in parts of the city tourists never see. We’ll see some of the apartments and houses where band member’s lived and where Jimmy opened his witchcraft bookshop. You’ll see where their own ‘Swan Song’ label and management offices where, and the 2is Coffee Bar where their legendary manager, Peter Grant, first worked as a bouncer.
While we’re on our Zep trail you’ll also be seeing locations associated with many other legendary heavy rock bands.

The Led Zeppelin Extended UK tour
Once a year (October) we set off on a fantastic 4-day/3-night Led Zeppelin pilgrimage – exploring the band’s wider UK roots and history. We visit Page’s early family homes and schools; his legendary Pangbourne boathouse and his one-time Cookham studio; Hedley Grange studios; Raglan Castle (location for Plant’s ‘dream’ in ‘The Song Remains the Same’) and the nearby Clearwell Castle rehearsal site; Page’s Windsor home and death place of Jon Bonham; Bonham’s grave; the west Midland towns of Wolverhampton and Kidderminster to explore Plant and Bonham’s early lives and musical roots; and the mystical Bron yr Aur, deep in the mountains of North Wales. This is a truly unique way of seeing some wonderful parts of the UK.
If you can’t make the tour dates we can also run this for private parties at a time of your choosing.
